One day a couple of months ago Andy said, "you should get some girls together to go ride." I agreed.
On the first ride we had about six women of varying levels. We met at New River Bikes and headed out to the Town Park. We kept it pretty simple that first day and have tailored rides since then based on the ladies' preferences.
It has been awesome. We've gone out when it's pouring and ridden fireroads just to get out. Different women have lead when they've known the area that others do not. I have seen women inspired to get clipless pedals, attempt hills, tricks, etc because of other women.
We rock.
I rode up with 4 great guys from team WELDNRB and 2 more in truck behind us. By the time I got there, I'd heard all about what this trail might be like but it doesn't prepare you fully until you're on it.
I lined up with the beginners and scoped out my competition. I didn't realize that I wanted to beat all the females in my division until I was standing there waiting to go. I was doing pretty good on the nasty road climb and wanted to get in the woods first. Done. Then any pride or competition I had went out the window. Ha! Essentially I had my ass handed me in this race.
Honestly it's a blur. I can tell you this: It was skinny, muddy, I went over some stuff, I walked some, and I rode more than I walked.
At the end of it all I had a great time and am thinking about the next race and what I need to do to do better.
I did place. 3rd. Don't ask how many were in the division. :)
